O Merciful Father.
Just like Habakkuk cried out. We cry out. How long do I have to cry out for help before you listen? How many times do I have to yell, “Help! Murder! Police!” before you come to the rescue?
Why do you force me to look at evil, stare trouble in the face day after day? Anarchy and violence break out, quarrels and fights all over the place. Law and order fall to pieces. Justice is a joke. The wicked have the righteous hamstrung and stand justice on its head.
“GOD, you’re from eternity, aren’t you? Holy God, we aren’t going to die, are we? GOD, you chose Babylonians for your judgment work? Rock-Solid God, you gave them the job of discipline? But you can’t be serious! You can’t condone evil!
So why don’t you do something about this? Why are you silent now? This outrage! Evil men swallow up the righteous and you stand around and watch!”
O Lord. Such heart wrenching words from the depths of a weary soul. The past sounds like today and yesterday and the last six months. Anarchy. Chaos and confusion. Tyrants ruling the land. Justice flailing. Freedom waning.
O Merciful One. Look down in your unfailing mercy on this faltering and failing generation. We are looking up to you! We are standing here united in hearts and spirits. Looking to you because you are the answer to this sin sick world. We are not alone! You say it loud and clear. Behold! I am with you always! Even unto the end of the world.
So we pick ourselves up out of the ashes of this miserable, diabolical mess. We stand firm. We will not be shaken. We will not sink! When the world around me is sinking sand on Christ the solid rock I stand.
Jesus Christ. He is the solid rock for America. He is the solid rock for President Trump and Vice President Pence. He is the solid rock for the church. He is the solid rock for the nations of the earth.
I will say of the Lord! He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. I will say of the Lord. You are my defender and protector. You are my God and in you I trust. I will say of the Lord. He is my sword and shield and exceeding great reward.
So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.
We will not place our hope, affections or trust in the advice of this world. They are shifting shadows and evil wicked delusions. We will trust alone in our life giving, unchanging God.
In Jesus name. Amen.
